After the Pandemic: Education
with
Valerie Whitehead (Glynn County Schools)
and
Dan Challener (Public Education Foundation)

For the final session of our After the Pandemic series, educational strategists Valerie Whitehead and Dan Challener will focus on secondary education. How did our schools manage during the pandemic? Did distance learning really work? What will the future hold? Will ‘screens’  become a permanent part of the way we teach students?

Valerie Whitehead has been with the Glynn County Schools for 33 years. She is responsible for special education, student services, strategic planning and, this year, the system’s COVID-19 response.

Dan Challener has been the President of the Public Education Foundation (PEF) since 1999. PEF works with the Chattanooga public schools to support innovative programs such as increasing college-going rate, preparing the next generation of school principals, and developing digital fabrication labs. Dan is a graduate of Princeton and Brown universities.

It takes a wise man to anticipate the future. Speaker George Colony does it for a living. Colony’s company, Forrester Research, helps its clients — many of whom are Silicon Valley companies — prepare for the future by anticipating consumer needs, employee and industry developments, and trends in technology. Although Forrester may not have anticipated this pandemic, anticipating and predicting is what the company does all the time.

On Wednesday, March 10, the meeting room will open at 4:45 PM  to allow time for you to settle in. Out of consideration for our speaker’s busy schedule, the presentation will begin promptly at 5 PM. Club member Dan Kelly will introduce Mr, Colony, who will have 25-30 minutes for his presentation, followed by your questions and discussion. If you have questions, please send them to Phil Graitcer in advance.

After the Pandemic: Religion

featuring
Rabbi Rachel Bregman
and
Pastor John Perry

As cases of COVID-19 begin to drop and we’re getting our first doses of the vaccine, it is tempting to think about the future, without COVID-19, when our lives may be returning to normal.

Well, let’s say a “new normal.”

Our next Zoom Happy Hour will explore, discuss, and imagine how our lives, and what we do, may be in the “new normal.”   We’re calling this new Happy Hour series, After the Pandemic.  We’ll explore the future of the arts, education, religion and business in the “new normal.”

To kick off the series, we’ll be joined by two well-known religious leaders in our community. Although they’ll discuss how the pandemic impacted the religious community and how they’ve adapted, I’ve asked them to gaze into a crystal ball, and discuss religion in the “new normal.” How will we worship in the future?  Will we meet in person? How do we create a religious community with COVID precautions in place? Has the pandemic experience altered our religious convictions?

Rabbi Bregman is the Berman Family Rabbinate Rabbi of Temple Beth Tefiloh, the 134 year-old synagogue located in Brunswick. She has advanced degrees in Education from Harvard and from the Union College Jewish Institute of Religion. Pastor Perry leads the Mount Sinai Missionary Baptist Church in Waverly. The congregation is over 150 years old.  Pastor Perry is from Jacksonville and trained at Jacksonville Theological Seminary.

Our session will start promptly at 5:00pm on Wednesday, February 10 and will be held on Zoom. We’ll open the Zoom meeting room at 4:45pm to give you time to settle in. At 5:00pm, I’ll introduce the speakers, and they’ll talk for about 30 minutes, leaving time for your questions and discussions.

You must register for this session on our website by completing the information below After you register you will receive an email with a Zoom link. Please save that link. We’ll send out a reminder the day before the session. If you think others would enjoy this session, please ask them to register rather than sharing your link.

I look forward to “seeing” you at the next Happy Hour!

Phil Graitcer, President
